Apple Blossom Festival @ Davies Heritage Orchard

Come enjoy a family-friendly spring event in historic Davies Orchard, Crippen Regional Park. There will be a tea house, mini-farmers’ market and seed sale, tours of the orchard and museum cottage, apple-blossom photography and a parasol painting workshop for youth 5+ – participants paint and take home a parasol. Workshop cost $15.

Dog, Meet Horse – special animal meet up & training @ Crippen Regional Park Equestrian Ring

A special event bringing dogs and horses together. Limited space for dogs, so sign up early. Minimum $10 donation per dog.

10 AM – 12 PM Dogs Only Agility Course. Safety and horse sense. Sniff & smell horse tack.

1 PM – 3 PM One-on-One horse interaction. Practice sharing trails. Trail etiquette.

Round Bowen Challenge – paddle race @ Bowen Island Sea Kayaking

19TH annual Round Bowen Challenge
KAYAKS, SURF SKIS, PADDLE BOARDS, OUTRIGGERS

Join more than 100 paddler in a race to circumnavigate Bowen Island’s picturesque coastline.

The ‘Round Bowen Challenge is open to paddlers of high performance kayaks, sea kayaks, OC 1’s and 2’s, and stand-up paddle boards. The race ends with a dock party, awards ceremony, and the now famous, post-race salmon BBQ in the Bowen Island Marina.

Island Challenge (33km)
Paddlers start and finish in Snug Cove. SUP and standard kayaks start at 9:30am, the HPKs and OC 1’s and 2’s depart at 10:30.

Half Island Challenge (13-19km)
The half-island race starts at 11:30 in Tunstall Bay on Bowen’s west side and ends in Snug Cove. Shuttles available. Race direction depends on sea conditions. Clockwise the distance is 19km and counter-clockwise the distance is 13km.

Located just west of Vancouver in Howe Sound, Bowen Island is a 20-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. Bowen Island Sea Kayaking hosts the annual race with support from a variety of sponsors, including Seaward Kayaks, Ruddy Potato grocery, Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak, Bowen Island Pub, THINK Kayak and Starboard paddle boards.

Bowen Island Lumberjack Show @ Crippen Regional Park

If you like the sound of chainsaws, enjoy the smell of sawdust and think plaid is the latest fashion, you’ll want to come to the Bowen Island Lumberjack Show. The show has many logging sport categories for competitors of all ages. Competitors grow their skills in traditional logging sports like pole climbing, crosscut saw competitions, axe throwing and relay team competitions. Each year the competitors return, determined to defeat those who dare to challenge them.

Many of the traditional logging sports are included in each years venue. There are also challenging age appropriate sports for the family. Every year high skill level sports are demonstrated by top professionals from around North America. Here are some of the logging sports coming to this years event on Bowen Island.

Handloggers Half Marathon @ Bowen Island - start Marina Pier

The sixth annual Handloggers Half Marathon and Relay is on Saturday, August 31st 2019.

This mountain trail run is a challenging 21km counter clockwise loop around Mt. Gardner. To get an idea of our beautiful course – check out our 2017 event video!

The race will be a single start event with stopwatch timing. The run begins at 9 am and starts/finishes near the ferry dock in Snug Cove, Bowen Island.

Pre-race check in begins at 8am on event day. Runners coming from off island should plan to take the 8am ferry from Horseshoe Bay to ensure adequate time to fill out the waiver form and pick up race numbers.

This run can be completed individually or as a relay in a team of three, with handoffs at each of the aid stations. Be sure to check your preferred option when you register.

There will be drinks, snacks and great prizes available at the finish line, as well as three aid stations on the course.

The Handloggers Half Marathon raises funds in support of Bowen Island Trail Society and other worthy causes which benefit members of the Bowen Island community.

Bowen Island Trail Society (BITS) is a volunteer organization dedicated to building and maintaining a safe, well-integrated and interconnected community trail network for non-motorized trail users on Bowen Island. Race proceeds will be used to support trail development and maintenance on beautiful Bowen Island for the benefit of the trail user community!

We will also be continuing to support the Akili Girls Preparatory School in Kisumu Kenya. Race proceeds and donations will be used to support the development and operation of this important education project.
