Over a thirty-year period, John and Josephine Riley planted almost one thousand varieties of heirloom apples creating a one-of-a-kind orchard. In 2019, Christine and Rob Purdy took over the orchard with the vision of both preserving the unique orchard and transforming its fruits into a new product to be shared and enjoyed. After two years of hard work, Riley’s Cidery opened July 2021 and quickly garnered international recognition resulting in two prestigious awards: Sip & Tell cider won gold at the International Brewing Cider Awards in the UK and bronze at the Portland International Cider Cup. Montecristo Magazine recently published an article about Rileys Cidery Bowen Island’s Library of a Thousand Apples.
Riley’s Cidery crafts three ciders plus seasonal varieties that you can sample in their tasting room – please reserve a tasting session via on their website – or at local Bowen Island restaurants. You can purchase bottles at Riley’s Cidery, via online shop or at various stockists. Riley’s Cidery also provides a BYO picnic area that you can reserve.
