Ferry Lineup | Bowen Island

Yes, the ferry lineup is tricky. Here's how to do it like a local.

Yes, the ferry lineup can be a bit confusing, especially if you’re visiting for the first time. These tips will help you avoid mistakes and park in the ferry lineup safely. No one wants to be sent to the back of the line!

Ferry lineup guidance document with visual and written directions

• The ferry lineup starts near the terminal and goes all the way up the main street to the school.

• The ferry lineup is double lane in the area between the school and Dorman/Miller roads intersection. Single lane between the intersection and the terminal.

• Park behind the last car. There is a safe turnaround in front of the school/Mt. Gardner Road, if needed.

• The ferry carries approximately 100 cars, so if you’re in front the the school, you should make the next sailing.

• Do not block roads, intersections, or driveways, even when moving forward to load the ferry.

• Keep white cross-hatched areas clear at all times – this is a safety issue. Treat the white cross-hatched areas like an intersection: do not enter unless you can clear to the other side. If the ferry lineup stops loading and you’re stopped in the white cross-hatched areas, you’ll have move – maybe to the end of the line.

• Don’t line up past the “End of the Ferry Marshalling” sign or stop on the road. This is a huge safety issue! Leave and come back for the next sailing.

• Once you’re parked safely in the ferry lineup, you do not need to stay in your car. You can walk away. Grab a coffee. Or just enjoy sitting in a cool shady area. Just be back near your car, 20 minutes before the designated departure time. NOTE: there is a one-minute idling bylaw. So do not run your car longer – for air conditioning or heat – longer than one minute.
